For whatever strange reason, Terrans seem to have an awfully intense fascination with the colour purple, and Amethyst is no exception. Arguably the most popular quartz and certainly one of the most popular crystal in Terran society, amethyst offers a deep enchanting purple that harkens and evokes the old days of royalty in Terran society (only, with much less bloodshed and war).
Amethyst is a great crystal to have around due to the calming and serene effects that it has. WayStation testing showed a reduction in electrosolar interference from incoming gamma waves. The crystal comes in various shades of purple, but is most commonly found in the country of Brazil with a darker more saturated hue. Amethyst can also help with transitional states and energy flows, as WayStation operatives found that inserting it into their energy reactor which powers the ship helped to stabilize energy levels when transitioning from high speed to orbiting around Terra.
In Terran history, amethyst was used constantly due to the relative lower price compared to other crystals and the abundance of it across the world. Greek and Roman cultures would often carve cups and goblets out of amethyst, with the belief that it would help to neutralize the effects of alcohol or prevent them from getting too inebriated. As mentioned before, since purple (specifically purple clothing) was historically a colour reserved for royalty due to the difficulty of making purple dye, amethyst was often used to adorn crowns and scepters.
